"You really do have the power to create the world that you live in." - Nasheen Chowdhury
What world am I choosing to live in? What life am I creating? I like to think that it is a lifestyle that is filled with creativity and inspiration. But what, exactly, does that look like? Creativity is often considered a gift, and Inspiration is nothing without action. And then there are the outside variables that come with a creative life. Have I been nurturing a creative life?
Plenty of time has been spent both alone and in training working on my creative "muscles" (as I like to call them. They really do seem to need exercise in order to remain quick and alert.) This year I have been making an effort to give myself extra space to let the seeds that I have planted grow. 2013 is dedicated to working on my first art show based on colour in light. Having a lofty aim (50 pieces by the end of the year) keeps me on my toes. I have been drawing inspiration from artists who have done similar feats and succeeded - many based right out of California!
Working on my creative network has been not only paramount but extremely fun. Simply adventuring out there and seeing what others are doing in their communities has opened my eyes to all of the different corners of life that art truly reaches. Groups like Splendor Device are like melding pots, bubbling with potential. Splendor Device, in particular, are active in their community Creative groups are all about interpretation, and sometimes words fail to come across verbatim. One has to be able to withstand the occasional storms of misunderstanding that can happen within such an environment and stick to the goal.
Healthy creativity and effective inspiration come down to a balance between outside influence and what works on a completely personal level. Being open for collaboration and insight as well as creating personal methods gives you flexibilty in the work process. Creativity is flexible, never forget that!
