When approached by friend Kara about possibly doing my take on a landscape of Jim Hensen's "The Dark Crystal", I was more than excited to get started. She said that she believed in my "swirly pretty colors ability", and I said "Yay!" If you have ever seen the film, it is gorgeous, particularly for its time in cinematography. I also can never seem to get enough of that style of puppetry.
I began with a fairly large canvas at 24 inches tall by 36 inches wide. I then applied fairly thin layers of oil paint on top of a chromatic underpainting - a technique that I am playing around with.
Kara is thrilled with the results, and I can't want to see it hanging on her wall the next time I visit Orange County (^_^)
